Roslyn Landcare invited the Laggan Public School children and Yr 3 from Crookwell Public School to a Landcare education day with the Livestock Health Protection Board at Roslyn TSR. In the morning the children were given education about Pest animals from LHPA’s Mark McGaw and Neville Collins, who brought along a trailor full of stuffed feral animals for the children and they taught them how to identify feral animal tracks and the children were able to make their own plaster cast of a feral animal foot prints. Other activities provided by the dedicated Roslyn Landcarers, Eric Hurn, Kenneth Wheelwright and Len Johns involved teaching the children about why we need to plant trees and then on to how to plant trees. After a delicious bbq by Kenneth Wheelwright the children, teachers and landcarers managed to plant 340 trees at the Roslyn TSR. Roslyn Landcare’s Mark Selmes entertained the children with a talk about native animals with many amusing props including dressing into a large possum suit much to the delight of the school children. Kenneth Wheelwright put on a barbeque for all of the hard working tree planters.
It was a wonderful day to be involved with because of the amazing enthusiasm displayed by the children and the passion, dedication and genorosity of the Roslyn Landcarers and the LHPA.
